Happy Oral Health Month!

It's finally April, and although we've enjoyed a mild winter, I'm sure we can all really appreciate that warmer weather is here. Speaking of appreciation, this month we celebrate National Dental Hygienist Week (April 9-15), giving us the opportunity to show how much we appreciate the people who take such good care of our smiles.

Because April is both Oral Health Month and Oral Cancer Awareness month, our featured article talks about the oral cancer warning signs to look out for and the importance of regular oral cancer screenings. If it's been a while since your last checkup, contact our office to book a screening.

Do You Know the Oral Cancer Warning Signs?

While hearing the term 'cancer' can be scary, early detection of pre-cancerous tissue can minimize or eliminate the potentially disfiguring effects of oral cancer and possibly save your life. Many oral cancers have a high success rate of being treated, especially when found early.

The term 'Oral Cancer' includes cancerous growths in the cheeks, lips, mouth, throat, sinus, tongue, or anywhere in the oral cavity. As with most cancers, age is the primary risk factor for oral cancer, as most people diagnosed with a form of oral cancer are over 55.

There's nothing like a warm slice of apple pie! This recipe for classic comfort food takes advantage of delicious apples and rhubarbs (which are now in season). Enjoy it with a scoop of vanilla frozen yogurt for a tasty dessert.

Also in season this month: asparagus, chives, pears, rosemary, sage, and spinach.
